As a second-year student, I have to attend pedagogical courses. My favourite lesson is Pedagogical views. This is a very interesting lesson dealing with the different processes during which a person becomes a teacher, and several information in connection with students. I really enjoy this course because of the material we cover and because of the atmosphere.
My last class focused on students in general. The teacher showed us a research about various student types. Well, this was a certain type of a questionnaire made in 1992, but its results are still compatible. In the course we could see only the statistical results. There were 13 different categories all together and the students had to choose the one(s) in which they belong to. These are the following:
1. leader
2. ideal student
3. expert
4. hard-working
5. sportsman/sportswoman
6. side-splitting
7. mode-follower
8. entertaining partner
9. further role
10. shy
11. groundless
12. outsider
13. faceless
I feel that some explanations are needed. Those who are in the further role can be who are interested in arts, are good organisers, or who don't belong to any other categories. The groundless students could be (well, I made some guesses with some of my classmates, because we had no idea about the reference of this one) those who can't find their place in the world, in other words "being in a wrong place at a wrong time". The faceless pupils are the so-called "little grey mice".
During that class, we had to categorise ourselves according to our experience from the primary school. Most people were hard-working, but there was a high percentage in leaders, sportsmen, side-splittings and shy students. These solutions were surprising for me, because many people seem to have been changed since the elementary school times.
At the end of the lesson the teacher told us that these categories have effects to the whole person's life and some people can't get rid of these features. Since this lesson, I've been thinking about this division, because it is very thought-provoking.
I hope you will comment this post, because I'm interested in your opinions.
Cheers :)

Hy Zsuzsi!
I also attend the Pedagogical Views course and I agree with you that it is very interesting and important for us who would like to be teachers.
I like this kind of lesson because this is almost the only one when we don't have to stress to suit all the requirements, maybe because there is no requirement :) only to attend all of the lectures.
By the way your blog is wonderful, just keep on!
Hello Zsuzsi,
I think we attend this course together. Thursday at 10 o'clock? I really like this course and also the teacher. I think she teaches and explains well. I am very interested in this topic, because I want to be a teacher in the future (maybe). I also like this lesson, because we can share our views and so we can learn together.
I consider it very interesting and when I come to think of it, I can notice people with these roles in a group, as you mentioned. I'm having the same kind of course (but only in April) and I'm looking forward to starting it based on your writing, it 's gonna be great:)
Zsuzsi,
I also find your topic very interesting, because it shows how important is our first experience in a small community like the class. Because of this I have two questions about your writing. The first is what do you think which category do you belog to? And the second is how long time do you think you are belong to this category?
Thank you for the comments. Answering for the last question: I was among the shy and hard-working students. But since the elementary school I've changed a lot. Now I'm still hard-working but my shiness is trying to disappear.
Hi there Zsuzsi,
This is a very good blog entry and I certainly enjoyed reading it.:) And I found this method to be very useful in getting to know yourself as well as getting to know the people around you a little better.
